Family Violence Duty Lawyer Intensive
Specifically for family violence duty lawyers, this training gives participants practical strategies to usethe Family Violence Protection Act for advocacy and negotiation. This multi-day course includes the invaluable experience ofapplying knowledge and practical skillsinto action through a simulated court day before a Magistrate.
You will learn:
How to use the Family Violence Protection Act to assist clients
How to succinctly explain the intervention order process to clients
How intersectionality and working with clients who face additional barriers to justice can affect their experience of the court and legal system
How the Family Violence Protection Act interacts with the Family Law Act and how to make submissions regarding these matters at the Magistrates Court
How to be an effective advocate

Community legal centre lawyers with less than 2 years’ experience working as a duty lawyer in Family Violence Intervention Order matters

This training runs over three days.
You must be able to attend all 3 days.
The first two days will be online from 9:30-1:30 pm. The moot court day will be in person from 9:30-4:30 pm at the Melbourne Magistrates Court (if available)
