Family law and separation

Family Law and Separation

Your client may have family law issues when they seek help with a family violence legal issue. Family Violence and the Law training provides lawyers with tools to identify family law issues (including urgent issues) and make appropriate legal referrals. You will also be able to identify and explain how family law (legislation and process) interacts with your client’s family violence legal issue.

At the end of the training, you will:

  • Understand how your client’s family violence legal issue intersects with their family law legal issue.
  • Understand how parenting arrangements are made through family dispute resolution and court processes.
  • Identify key sections of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) – including urgent parenting matters such as relocation, recovery and location orders, variation and contraventions of parenting orders – relevant to your client’s situation and provide appropriate legal information and referrals.
  • Understand property settlement principles and relevant sections of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) to identify relevant issues to your client’s situation and provide appropriate legal information and referrals.
Who is this for?

This training is best suited for generalist community legal sector lawyers who want to enhance their practice supporting clients with intersecting family law legal issues.
