Child protection and the law

At the end of the training, you will:

• Gain a broad understanding of the child protection system, and the different ways child protection may become involved in your client’s life.
• Learn about voluntary agreements, child protection orders, and the role of the Children’s Court.
• Understand key sections of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 (Vic) including ‘best interests’ principles.
• Identify, and respond to, common intersections between child protection orders and other areas of law.
• Apply trauma-informed skills to better support clients, particularly those with diverse and intersecting needs.
• Identify legal and non-legal referral pathways to provide holistic care for your clients.
