Family law and separation

Learn how to identify family law issues, make appropriate legal referrals and explain how family law (legislation and process) interacts with your client’s family violence legal issue. 

At the end of the training, you will:

  • Understand how your client’s family violence legal issue intersects with their family law legal issue.  
  • Understand how parenting arrangements are made through family dispute resolution and court processes. 
  • Identify key sections of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) with respect to parenting disputes, including urgent parenting matters such as relocation, recovery and location orders.
  • Understand property settlement principles to identify relevant issues to your client’s situation and provide appropriate legal information and referrals.
