Intersections: family violence and women on visas

Learn how migration visa conditions can affect women experiencing family violence and get practical strategies to support women on temporary visas.

At the end of this training, you will:

  • Understand barriers faced by women on temporary visas experiencing family violence. 
  • Identify migration issues in your client’s family violence legal issue. 
  • Understand the family violence provisions in the Migration Act 1958 (Cth), how they apply, and process of raising a family violence claim. 
  • Build confidence and ability to ask clients about their visa status and identify legal issues. 
  • Identify the evidence needed to establish a family violence exemption. 
  • Understand the barriers clients may face providing evidence.

Generalist community legal sector lawyers who want to enhance their practice supporting clients on temporary visas that are at risk of or experiencing family violence.

Details

Training is offered online and in-person training. This training runs across 1 full day when in-person, in Melbourne's CBD. When online, the course runs over 2 consecutive half days. This training is delivered through our online learning platform. You’ll be taken there to enrol.
